An invitation from ACLCA South Australia is extended to all members to watch Natalie Newman (EHS Support) present her Abstract presentation online.

Hydrocarbon contamination is a commonly encountered environmental issue that poses health risks to sensitive receptors. In 2023, approximately 30,000L of diesel was lost from a truck roll over on the Stuart Highway ~960km northwest of Adelaide.

The lateral extent of original surface impact was around 400 m2, including impacts to an ephemeral creek that is culturally sensitive to the Yankunytjatjara people.

The EPA was notified, three remediation options were provided in accordance with relevant guidelines, and the most sustainable and culturally sensitive option was chosen via a remediation options assessment (ROA).

Natalie is a graduate Environmental Scientist with experience in soil and groundwater contamination and remediation programs. She is passionate about sustainable remediation, environmental policy, and renewable energy.

Natalie received First Class for her Honours degree researching soil bacterial community compositions in childcare centres to understand implications for children’s health. This background has developed her understanding of exposure pathways and her interest in the role bacteria can play in sustainable environmental remediation.
