This module aims to provide participants with a broad introductory understanding of remedial approaches and management within the scope of current regulations and the hierarchy of regulatory methods (e.g. NEPM, ANZECC, IWMP, etc).
Who should attend?
This module will target professionals within the contaminated land industry involved in remediation works, investigations or management.
Objective:
The course will look at different contaminants for soil and groundwater and teach students how to develop a solution (and apply it) to remediation projects given different possible treatment options (e.g. physical, chemical and biological).
Presenters:
Lyle Carpenter is a Technical Executive in Remediation at WSP with over 22 years’ experience in the contaminated land industry. Lyle has experience working soil and groundwater remediation, petroleum facility decommissioning, demolition, soil classification and contaminated land management. Lyle is part of the WSP remediation team, which is a group of specialist engineers, scientists and technicians responsible for the planning and implementation of soil and groundwater remediation projects throughout Australia. His responsibilities included the coordination of the design, operation and maintenance, construction and tendering for groundwater treatment/remediation projects throughout Australia, and to ensure that environmental, quality and safety policies were implemented, consistently applied and regularly audited.
Andrew Labbett is an Environmental Engineer (Renewal Environmental Consulting) with over 29 years’ experience specialising in contaminated land assessment and remediation. He has completed projects across the Asia Pacific Region, the USA and the UK. Andrew specialises in delivery of remedial programs, from the conduct of feasibility studies and cost estimation to the remediation strategy design, pilot testing, strategy implementation and site closure. Andrew has worked on a range of retail petroleum sites, chemical manufacturing plants and manufactured gasworks sites. He has also taken interest in developing and implementing sustainable remediation technologies and was rewarded with the Inaugural SuRF™ ANZ Sustainable Remediation Project Recognition Award from the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association in 2015 for his solar thermal recirculation.
