The Content of Workshop VI
In our PFAS workshop, we have embarked on an illuminating journey, uncovering the intricate dynamics of managing these pervasive substances. As we wrap up, it is crucial to recognize that perception matters in the realm of environmental management. Effective communication, both through social and mainstream media channels, plays a pivotal role in shaping public understanding and response. PFAS, with their persistent nature and ubiquitous presence, demand our attention forever and everywhere. By considering strategies such as pathway interruption and source elimination, along with the utilization of treatment trains and innovative technologies, we pave the way for sustainable solutions. Let us leverage our newfound knowledge to navigate the complexities of PFAS management, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for generations to come.
The Presenter
Meet Paul Nathanail, our esteemed workshop leader. Paul is the Managing Director of Land Quality Management Ltd., a specialist consultancy. As a Chartered Geologist and Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC), Paul combines consultancy, research, and training in all aspects of risk-based contaminated land management and brownfield redevelopment. He has chaired the UK National Brownfield Forum and the SiLC Register board of directors.
Paul has worked on PFAS investigations, risk assessments and remediation projects in both the UK and Australia. He is the lead author of the forthcoming CIRIA guidance on PFAS in soil and water and co-chairs the NICOLE PFAS working group. He has developed site specific human health screening levels for 19 individual substances and has taught consultants how to derive such levels for their own sites. He has provided independent review of PFAS remediation projects. Paul is keen to help practitioners “speak” PFAS-ese and truly “get” why PFAS behave as they do.
