19th November 2024 ALS Laboratory tour for ACLCA ECPs
Appreciation has been extended to ALS for the invitation to ACLCA Early Career Professionals to tour their laboratory facilities followed by a presentation and Q&A . This tour was initiated by the Early Career Professionals Subcommittee. and coordinated by Stephanie Napolean (ECPSc).
The laboratory tour was designed to enlighten ECPs on what happens to environmental samples once they arrive at the lab. And shed light on the varying laboratory analysis processes, challenges encountered and what ECPs can do to facilitate a smooth workflow.
Attendees benefited from seeing behind the scenes and new areas of the lab, observing the entire process from submitting sample testing & reports, lab instruments, and general functions of the lab.
“On November 19, 2024, we attended the ALS Environmental Laboratory for a lab tour, gaining a behind-the-scenes look at their operations. As environmental consultants, we typically engage with the laboratory at the sample submission and results stages. Being shown how different samples are processed and analysed, and the instruments and tools used to complete this was both insightful and fascinating. A particular highlight was seeing the automated systems and robotic instruments at the lab and learning about how these tools have increased the accuracy and time efficiency of sample analysis. The in-depth discussion on ALS’s quality assurance and control (QA/QC) protocols at the end of the tour not only deepened our appreciation for the work the ALS team do, but also provided valuable insights into how we, as consultants, can better support their processes. We are grateful to the ALS staff for their generosity, patience, and expertise in answering our many questions.” Ella, Jaimee and Adriana from Prensa
‘We appreciate ALS providing us with the fantastic lab tour and great presentation at the end. The entire process, from submitting the sample to testing it to receiving the report, appeared to go quite smoothly. It was amazing to observe and learn about the instruments as well as how the lab functions. Thank you ALS and ACLCA for organising this tour.’ Arash from Aurecon
